Sri Mhasoba Devasthan Trust is a place of devotion of devotees in the picturesque area of scenic Mulshi Taluka of Pune district in the village of Kharwade. At Kharwade, while collecting leaf litter in a dense forest, Buaji got scared when his hand was hit by a betel nut under a nimboni tree. On the same day, on the same night, after having a vision of Shri Mhasoba’s birth, he excavated the same place and found a large idol with a shendur attached to it and that is the current original idol of Shri Mhasoba God.
And that is why Kharwade is believed to be the birthplace of Sri Mhasoba. This origin story is believed to date back to the 13th century. There is a history that Baji Pasalkar, the first commander-in-chief of Swarajya, came to visit. This area of activity of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s loyal Sardar Dayajirao Marne. All the villagers used to watch the affairs of God.

In order to streamline the planning, on August 8, 1993, K. Laxmanrao Tukaram Marne and some of his colleagues duly registered the Devasthan Trust. It has been recognized as ‘B’ class pilgrimage site by the government. Funds have been received for various schemes under the Pilgrimage Development Program by the government and through it the parking lot, devotee accommodation, darshan bari, temple premises have been beautified for the comfort of the devotees.
From the donations received by the devotees, the temple has been decorated as a magnificent lamp. A 100 tola gold crown has been installed on the temple. Along with religious work, school scholarships for local students, clinics for villagers in Panchkroshi, well-equipped ambulances and many other activities are carried out for the purpose of social commitment. The practice of animal sacrifice and kool planting, which has been going on for the last 400 years, has been stopped forever. Such Shree Mhsoba Devasthanam is thronged by devotees every Sunday, Purnima, Amavasya.
